How to Clean Hardwood Floors
Getting the Most Out off Your Hardwood Floor
In order to get the most out of you hardwood floor, proper care should be taken to keep it clean.
Loose dirt particles can build up and cause scratches in your floor’s finish. Wipe up any spills immediately to avoid staining or warping of the wood.
Vacuum or dry mop weekly.
If vacuuming, use a vacuum attachment built for bare floors, not carpet. When dry mopping use a cotton head dust mop and a special dry mopping treatment approved by your floor’s manufacturer.
Some hardwood manufacturers will recommend wet or damp mopping and some will not. Damp mopping is the fastest, simplest way to deep-clean your hardwood floor. Take care when wet mopping to not use too much water, as this can permanently damage hardwood. Moisture cannot penetrate the floor if your mop is properly rung out and your floor is properly sealed. When wet mopping, use a neutral pH cleaner made specifically for use on hardwood floors. Refer to your floor’s manufacturer recommendations for which cleaning agents are approved under your warrantee.
Small scuffs from shoes can be removed by rubbing with a pencil eraser. Larger scuff marks can be removed by LIGHTLY rubbing with a VERY FINE steel wool.
