Granite is an excellent and superior choice for both bathroom and kitchen countertops. It is one of the most durable stones in the world and is often used outdoors because of the resilience. Cleaning Granite Countertops
Many things can contribute to making granite countertops harder to clean; however, using some basic daily care can make cleaning them much simpler for you. If any liquid spills on your countertop, blot them up immediately with a washcloth or paper towel. Avoid spreading the liquid in a circle to wipe it up. Many substances contain acids such as fruit juice, tomato-based products, sodas, wine, and coffee. All of these may lead to stains on your countertops. When cleaning your granite countertops, use a soft, cotton cloth or a sponge so as not to scratch the surface. Do not use dish soap and hot water repeatedly to clean your granite. It can cause a buildup on the surface that is harder to clean off. Always insist on a coaster underneath cans, bottles, and glasses. This is just a great practice to use so that water is not left behind from condensation that you would need to wipe up. Always we hot pads or trivets under any hot pans, pots, and cooking vessels even if you just removed them from the microwave and not the oven or stove. If is rare, but granite can suffer from thermal shock and crack your beautiful countertops.
Types of Cleaners
Either you can use an approved granite countertop cleaner available from your local countertop and flooring store, or you can make a simple mixture with home products that are all natural and will clean and disinfect it all at once. Many of the commercial products include a water-based cleaner and sealer to add an extra layer of protection while cleaning. These products are so gentle that you can use them as often as on a daily basis for a quick cleaning and sparkling granite countertops. You just spray the product on the soiled area and wipe it back up with a soft cloth or sponge. There is no need to rinse the product. You may need to repeat the process if you still see the soiled area. Mix ¼ cup of rubbing alcohol with three drops of dish soap and pour it into a 16 oz spray bottle then fill with water and shake it to mix it thoroughly. Use this homemade concoction for cleaning granite countertops with a soft cloth or sponge. You can add an essential oil to make it smell nice too.
